October 2007 - October 2008
Possible Selves, Transitionen und Bildungserfolg. Kindheit und Jugend türkischer Migranten
From October 2007 to October 2008 we conducted a mixed-method pilot study that investigated the future orientations of low-income German Turkish adolescents in Berlin. The first objective was an explorative, qualitative exploration of the perceptions and meanings that this group of youths assign to their social and structural positioning, and how educational goals are situated in relation to these meanings. The second objective was the the development and pilot testing of a structured instrument for the assessment of adolescent future orientations in this population. 17 graduate students from the disciplines of anthropology, education, Islam Studies, and sociology participated in this mixed-method team ethnography. The pilot study yielded a qualitative-quantitative data set, research reports, and a structured instrument for the assessment of life course models. We are presently preparing a longitudinal project that builds on this study and is scheduled to begin in the Fall/Winter of 2010.
