Basics of conversation management - Seminar

In this block seminar, you will be given a theoretical and practical introduction to the basics of perception, communication and interviewing. You will choose your own key topics and deepen your knowledge independently in small groups. In this seminar, practical references are established by visiting institutions in your chosen small groups and thus creating a link between scientifically based theory and practice.

Shaping early childhood education in real life: Design thinking as a method for innovative problem solving - Project seminar

In this project seminar, we will work in small groups over the course of the semester on a challenge, i.e. a real problem at a daycare center in Berlin. The aim of the seminar is to use the design thinking method to think outside the box and find innovative solutions to the problem of the Berlin daycare center. At the beginning, you will be given a theoretical introduction to the design thinking method. You will then go through all the phases of a design thinking process. Within this process, you will conduct research in the field and with the employees of the daycare center. At the end, you will generate a client-oriented solution that will enable you to help shape the daycare center in real life. The course takes place every 14 days for 4 hours. Participation requires a high degree of independence and the willingness to work in a team of max. 5 people.

Approaches to Pedagogical Action - Implementation of Digital Media in the Field of Child Day Care Facilities

This seminar explores the topic of digitalization in early childhood education. The use of digital media in early childhood settings, especially in daycare centers, is a subject of contentious societal and academic debate. These discussions range from negative conservative perspectives to more supportive views. The seminar engages with this tension and discusses it. The primary focus will be on the use of digital media in educational work with children, critically examining the opportunities and limitations. Other topics include curriculum integration, different fields of action (observation and documentation work, parent collaboration, professional development), and interventions for implementing digital media in daycare centers. Guest contributions will support the transfer of knowledge into early educational practice. Students will have the opportunity to choose their own specific focus.

Introduction to a field of action - Seminar

In this block seminar, the field of early childhood education and care in Germany is examined. Therefore, structure and control as well as curricular anchoring of the triad of early childhood education, upbringing and care will be dealt with. What qualifications and competencies do early childhood educators need? What is the connection between the competencies of the professionals and the quality in day care centers? These questions will be addressed in the seminar. Among other things, an overview of qualification profiles and competence models will serve this purpose. Furthermore, the German early childhood education system will be compared to the education systems of other countries. The block seminar will be supplemented by an insight into early childhood education practice.
