The Neurocomputation and Neuroimaging Unit (NNU) uses various neurocognitive methods and advanced analysis techniques to better understand how the brain works. Questions about how sensory stimuli lead to perceptions and how these influence or trigger actions are central to the research. The ultimate goal is to better understand what conditions are necessary to enable mental processes and to embed them in principles about how the brain functions. The unit belongs to the Department of Education and Psychology and is part of the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience Berlin. It is also central to the Master Cognitive Neuroscience Berlin and has close links with several institutes such as the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience, the Berlin School of Mind and Brain, and the Einstein Center for Neuroscience Berlin.
