Master of Education survey
The survey of M.Ed programs was conducted for the first time in 2009 under the direction of Prof. Dr. Felicitas Thiel (Arbeitsbereich Schulpädagogik/Schulentwicklungsforschung). Since 2017 the survey has been the responsibility of the Unit of Teaching and Learning Quality (Arbeitsstelle Lehr- und Studienqualität).
Yon can find the reports here (in German only).
When is the survey conducted?
The Master of Education survey is conducted in a four-year cycle, in parallel with the survey of Master’s programs, and alternates with the Bachelor’s Survey as shown in the figure below.

What is covered by the questionnaire?
The questionnaire focuses on the design of the study programs and an assessment of the support services.
While in 2009 the main issue was whether the change of teacher education to bachelor’s and master’s degree programs had improved the study situation of student teachers, since 2017 the survey has mainly focused on the evaluation of the “Praxissemester” (teaching practicum semester) and competence acquisition.
Data are collected on the following aspects:
- assessment of the structure and organization of the study programs theory-practice linkage in studies
- evaluation of the “Praxissemester”
- supervision and support provided by teachers as well as by mentors during “Praxissemester”
- Assessment of studyability and study satisfaction
- Subjective competence acquisition (subject knowledge, didactic knowledge und pedagogical knowledge)
- Study prerequisites and students’ living conditions
