Evaluation of studies and teaching
What is studying at Freie Universität Berlin like?
The Unit for Teaching and Learning Quality (Arbeitsstelle Lehr- und Studienqualität) is responsible for developing, conducting, and evaluating university-wide surveys in the area of studies and teaching. These surveys are part of Freie Universität Berlin's quality management system and contribute to the improvement of study quality.
The development of the questionnaire is based on a model for explaining study success. In line with this theoretical model, we take into account not only assessments of study programs and conditions, but also students' individual circumstances and life situations. This enables us to examine whether the programs and conditions meet the needs of our diverse student body.
The questionnaire focuses primarily on assessments of the study programs and study conditions. The core questions remain unchanged over time in order to identify trends in key areas of study quality. Nonetheless, the questionnaire is continuously adapted and supplemented with current topics.
The revision of the questionnaire is being coordinated in cooperation with the faculties, the Division V: Academic Affairs, and the Executive Board. The surveys are conducted online using the software Zensus. All reports and brochures on the surveys can be found here.
The Unit’s responsibilities also include the (further) development of the questionnaire for assessing teaching competence (LeKo), which is used in teaching evaluations.
