Reviews and meta-analyses on psychopathology and treatment of victims of armed conflict

In this project, studies that have investigated the occurrence of psychological symptoms in victims of systematic violence, war and other human rights violations (e.g. torture, expulsion) in different regions of the world are summarized and examined meta-analytically. The systematic summary of studies is necessary in order to gain a better understanding of the frequency of mental disorders and associated correlates among populations affected by violent conflicts. For this purpose, different scientific databases with specific search terms were systematically searched for primary studies conducted within the last 30 years. The primary studies were selected on the basis of specific criteria (e.g. regarding age, sample characteristics, form of violence, measurement instruments). The relevant results from the primary studies are summarised descriptively and examined with different meta-analytic methods.
