Causal Mechanisms of Altered Experiences
Post-Doc Networking Meet-Up
Organized by: Dr. Stephan Krohn & Dr. Timo Torsten Schmidt
Location: Habelschwerdter Allee 45, 14195 Berlin, JK28/112
Research on altered experiences is rapidly advancing across neuroscience, psychiatry, philosophy, and computational science. From hallucinations in clinical conditions to drug-induced states and experimentally induced alterations using methods such as stroboscopic light or neurostimulation, scientists are increasingly able to study changes in perception and subjective experience under controlled conditions. These approaches offer new opportunities to test causal hypotheses about how experience emerges, transforms, or becomes disrupted. Yet the field remains fragmented across disciplines that rarely intersect. This event brings together researchers from diverse backgrounds to develop a shared conceptual framework, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and lay the groundwork for future joint research initiatives.
