16th Annual Conference of the Commission for Teaching and Research into Primary Education of the German Association for Educational research
It is our pleasure to invite proposals for the 16th Annual Conference of the Commission for Teaching and Research into Primary Education (Kommission “Grundschulforschung und Pädagogik der Primarstufe”) of the German Association for Educational Research (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Erziehungswissenschaft – DGfE).
The conference will be held at the Freie Universitaet Berlin in Berlin, Germany, September 24 - 26, 2007.
This international conference is essential for all practitioners and researchers with an interest in primary education. It is open to the general public.
Deadline for submissions is May 15, 2007. Proposals for contributions are welcome from all participants. Presentation formats are papers of 20 minutes length maximum (for the parallel workshops) and posters. Please use the online form to submit an abstract (max. 250 words) on this site.

The situation within the primary education system in Germany is precarious: In no other European country social background and educational opportunities are comparably intertwined as in Germany. The PIRLS-Study and other similar studies have recently drawn attention to the fact that by the end of the term of primary education, future educational opportunities are in most cases preordained – to a large extent affected by the social background the children are from. For the education system of a democratic society this is an intolerable state of affairs. This conference aims to clarify the situation.
We are very pleased to be able to offer you an attractive programme: The primary education system will be analysed in the context of far reaching economic and social changes. There will be six plenary talks given by leading researchers in the field of education, some of them in English language. In addition we offer workshops under eight different headlines, carried out in parallel sessions and led by specialists in the respective fields. The aim of the conference is to come to conclusions and produce results, which could then be implemented in further empirical research in the field of education, and which could also be applied to political, teaching and methodological decisions for primary schools.
We would like to invite all educational researchers to present their own research in one of the workshops or in a poster presentation, thus enriching the conference. We wish to explicitly include all junior researchers in this invitation.
The language of discussion will be mainly German, but papers and contributions in English language are very welcome as nearly all participants speak English as well.
