Join our Read-Ease study and help us better understand how people read and experience stories and literary texts in a second language.
Who can participate?
We are looking for participants who:
- Are learning German as a second language,
- Ideally have recently completed a B2 German course (language level around B1 to B2/C1),
- And are ready to participate in an online study.
What will you do in the study?
You will read short book excerpts in German and then answer questions about the text and your reading experience.
- Interactive help: You can click on unfamiliar words to see a short explanation directly in German.
- No perfection needed: Your German does not have to be perfect. Your authentic experience is what is most important to our study!

Want to see how it works first? You can try out a short sample text and the interactive word explanations. This will give you a clear idea of what the texts in the study look like.
Key Details at a Glance
- Format: The entire study takes place online. You can complete it comfortably from home, take breaks, and remain completely flexible with your time.
- Duration: Approximately 90 minutes in total (with the possibility to take a break in between).
- Compensation: You will receive an expense allowance of €20 for fully completing the study.
