As of 2025 an initiative was launched by Stefan Krumm, Felix Blankenburg, and Sibylle Detel to make the topic of sustainability more tangible in our everyday work.

As the Freie Universität failed to achieve the goal of becoming climate neutral by 2025, we felt it is, also and in particular, up to smaller units of the university to drive for change. In January 2025, the new sustainability team had its kick-off and meetings are scheduled once per semester or as needed.

So far, our team members are from different psychology units but the team is open to all members of the department. Please join! And if you are from a different department, maybe we can support you in setting up your own sustainability team.

What is our purpose?

Our university is so diverse (in terms of the size of the work units, the way we work, the tools and resources we need, etc.) that different strategies and measures are needed to achieve the goal of a sustainable work environment. Therefore, we have decided to focus our efforts on the everyday challenges of reducing CO₂ emissions in our specific field of work. It is not so much about doing our “own” thing, but about taking action!

Also, we would like to make different efforts for a more sustainable work climate visible, share ideas, and learn from each other.
