Stephanie Haering studied psychology, politics, and international business management in Germany, Turkey, and the US. She is currently a PhD candidate at Freie Universität Berlin, a research associate at Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin, and has spent a research stay at Grady Trauma Project (Emory University, GA, USA).

Career

In her thesis with the working title ‘Higher Risk – Less Research? Addressing the Gender Data Gap in Psychotraumatology’ Stephanie takes a sex and gender-sensitive perspective on trauma-related health outcomes. This includes the examination of women-specific topics, as well as an investigation of sex- and gender-differences in PTSD risk factors and trajectories.

Stephanie’s work focuses on sex and gender-sensitive mental health research, with a special focus on traumatic stress research and women’s health. Stephanie is interested in improving diversity in research and practice and addressing disparities in health access and outcomes. She has a strong methodological background including training in intensive longitudinal data analysis, community-based participatory research and meta-research. In her teaching, Stephanie aims to create a safe and positive learning environment where students can discuss and practice how to use patient-centered communication to address topics such as gender-based violence or breaking bad news.
