Content
Learning disorders and special educational needs in the area of learning are classified as developmental disorders. Children with a learning disorder are characterized by difficulties in reading, writing, and/or arithmetics compared to their peers, despite having sufficient intelligence. In contrast, children with special educational needs in the area of learning typically have reduced intelligence.
Teaching Focus
To provide an overview of the prerequisites and influencing factors for successful learning, Lecture 1 and Seminar A of the Development of Learning module address topics such as attention, perception, thinking, memory and intelligence. Neurocognitive principles and development in childhood and adolescence are the central topics of Lecture 1. Seminar A takes an in-depth look at individual as well as school and external environmental factors that can have an influence on learning success. In Lecture 2 and Seminar B of this module, the focus shifts to exploring opportunities and risks in developmental trajectories. The courses focus both on learning disorders and on special educational needs in the area of learning. The module Interventions for Developmental Challenges in Learningcovers preventive and interventive methods, which can be used to prevent learning difficulties depending on individual, family and social conditions.
