My research interests are concerned with the computational principles and neuronal mechanisms underlying the execution, control, and understanding of purposive actions.
From the cognitive point of view, I am mainly interested in disentangling the relationship between cognitive intentions, motor intentions, and motor representations; namely: looking into the motor-hierarchy and investigating the functional relationship between intentions, proximal goals, motor plans, and action kinematics. I aim to understand how the motor system instantiates these functions utilizing decoding techniques applied to neuroimaging (e.g. Multivoxel pattern analysis in fMRI), behavioral methods (e.g. grip-force recording, kinematic measurements, and eye-tracking), and computer simulations.
From the computational point of view, I am mainly interested in verifying the compatibility of motor and ideo-motor models (and theories) about action planning, execution, and understanding with the active inference framework. My ultimate goal is to model the dissociation and the integration between motor and cognitive intentions through the active inference framework (a hierarchical POMDP or a hybrid model).
